The health department urged all districts on Monday to strengthen sample collection and intensify fever surveys to avoid a spike in dengue and malaria cases in the coming months.

The authorities predict that vector-borne illnesses might grow as humidity levels are on rise. During May to September mostly dengue fever cases are often recorded. 11,835 dengue cases and 54 malaria incidents in Haryana were documented in 2021. 8,996 dengue cases and 50 malaria cases were reported in 2022. The state also saw 13 fatalities due to dengue in 2021 and 18 deaths in 2022.

Officials said that the possibility of vector-borne diseases spreading has increased, because the region has had irregular rain this year.

Different mosquito species of the Aedes genus spread Dengue which is characterized by fever, headache, muscle and joint stiffness, and a measles-like skin rash are among the symptoms.

Dr. Virendra Yadav, Chief Medical Officer Gurgaon, said that they are collecting blood samples from people having dengue like symptoms as a part of the fever survey during this season. People were advised to be careful and maintain proper hygiene to prevent logging of water by periodically checking their flower pots, water coolers, overhead tanks or any area such area in their homes. Also it is recommended that people wear long-sleeved clothes and apply insect repellent.
